Mia abroad in the US 2018/19

If you want to go to the US for a year or a half you need to organize a lot of things. At first you need to find the right organization. In my opinion there´s not the "perfect" organization. EF, Give, and AFS are only a few examples for exchange organizations. At the end my parents and I decided to go with AIFS (American Institute for foreign Study). Cause of this my blog will be orientated on the AIFS program. But the most things will be similar to other organizations. 😃 Such an exchange year isn´t really cheap, that´s why I applied for a scholarship called PPP from the German government. Unfortunaly I didnt´get it, but I can do my year though. There are a lot of different scholarships and never give up to get one if you need one. One of the most important points by finding the right organization for me, were the orientation days in New York City, which AIFS offers. I think it will be great to have four days in NYC before I´ll fly to my host family. So I´ll have ...

That´s a really important question that I had to ask myself at the beginning. Is it sensible to go during the school time or isn´t it better to go after finishing school? Obvious it is the most important question, but if you really want to do an exchange it isn´t hard to find the answer. My answer changed my whole life and I´m really glad about my decision and  now I can´t expect to fly to the US. Of course I had to decide wether I want to go for a whole year (11 months) or only for a half year (5months). In my case (I don´t know who it is at foreign schools) I also had to decide if I want to go in my old class after the year or to the repeat the year I missed. I decided to repeat the year. But it is ok if you say I don´t want to miss one year of school. There are a lot of opportunities to go abroad after school 💙
